Want to use your cell phone as a Kodi Remote?
So you have missplaced that remote again and have given up looking for it hoping that it will show up eventually. What to do in the mean time. Order a new remote perhaps? Why not make your cell phone into a remote instead of spending money on another remote because you and I both know that you will find the old remote before the new one arrives.
On your android cell phone go to google play and download the app "Kore, Official Remote for Kodi"
On your Iphone, Ipod or Ipad go to the App Store and download the app "Official XBMC Remote".
Once it is installed it will go through a short setup.
First screen will be "Add Media Center" > hit "Next" [Make sure Kodi is running on your device and is not in sleep mode] the device will search for nearby kodi devices. Click on your device and hit "Next"
Your Device Name, IP address and Port Number should all be imputed for you, you just need to enter your user name and password... wait... where do I find that... I don't remember giving it one... you probably didn't yet. Put your phone aside for now.
Go to the device running Kodi and go to settings > Network and enable "Allow remote control by programs on this system" and "Allow remote control by programs on other systems" if they are not already enabled.
Then go one tab up to "Web Server" ensure that "Allow remote control via HTTP", then Create a Username (I just named mine "Kodi") and then enter a password.
Now go back to your cell phone and input the username and password you just entered under "Web Server" and hit "Test".
If everything was done right it should say "All Done" and all you need to do is hit "Finish"
And there you have it... Your cell phone can now be used as a remote for your Kodi!
